Our recent stay at the Coast Calgary Downtown Hotel & Suites by APA left us with mixed impressions—comfort and convenience tempered by signs of aging and housekeeping oversights. As someone familiar with other APA properties, we expected a bit more polish.
We booked a king suite featuring a kitchenette, which worked well for convenience. Unfortunately, early check-in wasn’t an option, and when our room finally was ready, we found the tub needed a rinse to clear a few dead bugs. A disappointing first impression.
Comfort vs. Cleanliness
The suite itself offered some real highlights: a comfy bed, soft pillows, working AC, and a functional kitchenette for quick meals. Yet, cleanliness missed the mark in places. Only one bath towel was provided for two guests, and we noticed visible wear and tear throughout the room. The bathroom fan was dusty and overdue for a deep clean, and there was noticeable hard-water build-up on the sink faucet.
Kitchenette: Handy but Incomplete
The king suite included basic cooking tools—a nice touch for extended stays—but fell short in key ways. There were no oven mitts or dish sponges, and the knives were so dull they couldn’t cut. If you’re planning to cook even simple meals, you might want to bring a few supplementary items.

On the positive side, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the lobby offered a small convenience area with basic snack items and ingredients for purchase. Parking onsite is available (for a fee), and there’s a fitness center and business amenities onsite. Overall, the property felt functional—but lacked the polish we expected from an APA-branded stay.
