Historical fiction books are amazing, and ones based on true stories are wild. The Light After the War by Anita Abriel is one of those books. The story starts after World War II has ended and follows Vera Frankel while she puts her life together again. Vera is Anita Abriel’s mother, so the story hits close to home.

Book Cover

Vera and Edith survived World War II and narrowly escaped arriving at Auschwitz. The book starts in 1946, but does explain parts of what happened during the war when Vera tells people her story.

This book has one major twist that I did not see coming at all. The thing that makes it crazier is that the book is based on someone’s real life and the struggles and tribulations that they went through.

I enjoyed reading The Light After the War and found it was hard to put down. Each chapter had be wanting to read more to find out what was going to happen next. The chapters were also not super long so finishing a chapter instead of having to stop in the middle of one was much appreciated.

I am excited to find more books by Anita Abriel so stay tuned!
