During a recent stay in Calgary, we checked into the Courtyard by Marriott Calgary South. Located in the growing south end of the city, the hotel offered modern amenities and friendly service, though there were a few functional and housekeeping details that stood out during my stay.
Room Layout & Comfort
I stayed in a 1 King Bed room, which felt modern overall and had some thoughtful features. One of our favourites was the rolling table, which could easily be moved around the room depending on whether you wanted to work, eat, or relax in bed.
The room was fairly clean, though we did notice a few missed details, including some hairs on the linens and an earring back left under the desk.
The bed itself was comfortable, but some of the room layout choices felt awkward in practice. The main light switch for the room was located on the far wall above the nightstand, meaning you either had to walk all the way around the bed or crawl across it to turn the lights off once settled in.
Another odd setup involved the blinds. The pull pole was tucked behind the couch, making it difficult to reach without climbing onto the couch or pulling directly on the curtains.
Bathroom & Amenities
The room featured a walk-in shower, but no bathtub or microwave, which may matter for longer stays or families traveling with children.
Unfortunately, during peak morning hours while getting ready, the shower water turned cold, which was disappointing when trying to get ready for the day.
Hotel Features & Location
One of the highlights of this hotel was the fitness area. The gym was a great size for a hotel property and being open 24/7 made it especially convenient. There’s also a pool area that had a hot tub and a waterslide.
The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, making check-in and questions easy.
The hotel is located in the south end of Calgary, an area that’s still heavily developing. There’s visible construction happening nearby, and while more amenities will likely come over time, right now you’ll probably want a car or Uber to get around comfortably.
Final Thoughts
This Courtyard Calgary South review reflects a stay with strong amenities and welcoming staff, balanced against a few unfortunate room design choices and minor cleanliness concerns. The gym and pool stand out as highlights, especially for travelers wanting fitness access while away from home.
