In the southwest corner of Richmond, BC there lies the beautiful Steveston Village. Historically, Steveston Village was built on fishing and farming, but today it is a vibrant and diverse community of many backgrounds.

Gulf of Georgia Cannery

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery was one of fifteen canneries in Steveston along the Strait of Georgia. It was built in 1894 and ceased operations entirely in 1979. There are still people who live in Steveston today that worked at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. It has been preserved as a National Historic Site and can be toured by the public.

The Cannery was a huge part of the job market and vital to the fishing industry. Fish that was canned was sold and sent all over the world. During World War II, herring was canned and sent overseas to the Allied soldiers.

Restaurants

There is no shortage of delicious places to eat in Steveston. Everything from brunch, to seafood, to pizza is at your finger tips! You might need to spend a few days in the area to have the opportunity to try and sample a fraction of the offerings.

Steveston Cafe

A classic in the heart of Steveston is the Steveston Cafe. Open early, at 7:30 a.m. every morning to get your day started with a filling breakfast. Over the years the menu has changed so if you haven’t been there lately, there may be something new for you to try.

I do miss back when they had their shrimp sandwich and breakfast wrap. They do have the option to turn the Bacon Cheddar Scramble into a wrap for an additional charge of $1.00 if you really want a wrap.

Britannia Brewing Co.

My favourite brunch spot in Steveston is at the Britannia Brewing Co. Their food is amazing and their staff are always friendly. Their lunch menu is also delicious so any time of day you will be winning. Britannia Brewing Co. also has a patio if you are looking to get a little sun and fresh air.

Steveston Pizza Co.

If you are looking for some unique and tasty pizza consider checking out Steveston Pizza Co. They have a variety of toppings that you don’t normally see at most pizza places. They have your basics, but then they dive into some crazier options and some that you even need to order at least a day in advance.

Marguerite Classic: basil chiffonade, bocconcini, and fresh Roma tomatoes. $22

Green Earth: roasted garlic, caramelized onions, spinach, enoki mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, truffle oil, and brie. $32

C6: medley of tiger prawns, lobster, ratatouille, smoked steelhead, Russian Osetra caviar, snowed with Italian white truffles. $850
