Had an amazing time camping over the weekend at Macktush Campground in Port Alberni, BC. The drive was absolutely gorgeous, but was a bit of a challenge. It is 30 km on an unpaved logging road for the final stretch of the journey. Planning ahead with the type of vehicle you will be taking and giving yourself extra time will be key. Details and link to the campground website at the bottom.

Our campsite was along the water with its own stairs down to the rock beach. This gave us a spectacular view and salty breeze. People were out fishing, kayaking, boating, and swimming all weekend. Was a little to chilly for our liking to go swimming. It was raining when we first arrived and were setting up camp, but it stopped in the evening and did not start again while we were there.

We went on a few walks to explore the campground and the surrounding trails. Taco loved going to find new places and sniff all the new smells. The trails were maintained, but still felt super natural. There is lots of undeveloped area that has been left as forest in and around the campground.

Being able to just relax and enjoy our time together was wonderful. We hope to be able to go camping more this summer and will be going back to Macktush next year if not again this year! Getting out in nature is very rewarding and a great change from the busy day-to-day in town. Can’t wait for the next adventure!
